A tubular container has a side wall of cardboard wound from a single sheet and has a circumferential slit 7 interrupted at 8, formed near its upper end, metal end members 2, 4 being seamed to the ends of the side wall and a tear string 10 held in place above the slit 7 by a label 11. The portion 8 of the container wall serves as a hinge for the end 4 which is used as a replaceable lid after the label 11 is ruptured by means of the tear string 10. In a modification the lid is entirely removable and may be replaced, after use, as a plug closure. |
