PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce virus-free seed yams from a multiple shoot obtained by allowing a virus-free culture seedling of Dioscorea opposita Thunb. or Dioscorea opposita Thunb. to germinate many shoots. SOLUTION: The method for producing the virus-free seed yams includes cutting the virus-free culture seedling regenerated from a shoot apex of Dioscorea opposita Thunb. or Dioscorea opposita Thunb., culturing the cut fragment in an MS medium to which a plant hormone of 1.0-5.0 mg/L 6-benzyladenine is added to germinate the many shoots, acclimating the obtained multiple shoots, culturing the acclimated shoots in a glass greenhouse to acquire propagules, and culturing the propagules as the seed yams in a greenhouse.
