The N-level electrical power converter has a connection point (a) for a potential (positive DC) and another connection point (d) for another potential (negative DC). A connection (AC) is provided for an alternating voltage. The multiple diode units (D1,D2) and multiple switching units (Tx,Ty) are provided to the converter. Only one diode unit is present between the former potential and the connection and likewise only one diode unit is present between the connection and the latter potential.
