IN SITU THERMAL PROCESSING OF A HYDROCARBON CONTAINING FORMATION AND UPGRADING OF PRODUCED FLUIDS PRIOR TO FURTHER TREATMENT

A method for hydrotreating a fluid in a heated formation in situ is described. The in situ treatment process may include providing heat from one or more heaters to at least a portion of the formation. The heat may be allowed to transfer from the one or more heaters to a part of the formation. A fluid may be provided to the part of the formation. The temperature of the part of the formation and the hydrogen pressure may be controlled in the formation such that the fluid is hydrotreated. The resulting hydrotreated fluid may be produced form the formation. Separation of the produced hydrotreated fluid may be performed. The resulting products such as ammonia may be converted to other products.
