PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and equipments for monitoring the external integrity of tobacco products. SOLUTION: The external integrity of tobacco products, typically cigarettes, is monitored by a method that includes the steps of: scanning a first image of a single tobacco product; selecting a first region of interest located within and smaller than the first image, in which the single tobacco product is shown; sending the first region of interest to an electronic processing unit; scanning a second image of the single tobacco product, subsequent to the scanning of the first image; selecting a second region of interest located within and smaller than the second image, in which the single product is shown; sending the second region of interest to the electronic processing unit; comparing the first and second regions of interest, by means of the processing unit, with one or more references; and generating a notification signal, based on the result of the comparison, to indicate an impairment in the external integrity of the tobacco product shown in the first and second regions of interest.
