PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material evaluation method evaluating offgas characteristics of a material in a short period of time. SOLUTION: A method for evaluating the material discharging an offgas containing a chemical contaminant, includes the steps of: supplying air containing a substance identical with the evaluation object chemical contaminant into a container enclosing a specimen of the evaluation object material; and calculating a discharge rate of the offgas discharged from the specimen, based on a concentration of the substance contained in the supplied air and that of the chemical contaminant contained in the air which has passed through the specimen, thereby evaluating the offgas characteristics in a short period of time.
