The present invention relates to a broadband wireless communication system, and disclosed are a method and an apparatus for executing a carrier management process in a broadband wireless communication system which supports multi-carrier. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method for executing carrier management by a terminal in a communication system which supports the multi-carrier comprises the steps of: receiving a signal which indicates control channel allocation for a 1st carrier from a base station; receiving a signal which indicates control channel de-allocation for a 2nd carrier from the base station; activating the 1st carrier if the 1st carrier on which the control channel allocation is indicated is in an inactivated state; and inactivating the 2nd carrier if the 2nd carrier on which the control channel de-allocation is indicated is in an activated state.
