The cleaning apparatus (1) has a cleaning element (6) movable over a surface (10) to be cleaned. The cleaning element is guided on opposite sides of the surface on a guide (5) e.g. guide rail, and has a cylindrical shaped brush (16). The cleaning element is driven by a drive (20) with synchronized speed, where the drive consists of a motor (2) and a gear box. The guide rail has an opening that is downwardly aligned. The guide rail exhibits a length, which is equal to or larger than a breadth of the surface.
