The unit has a planar fiber-optic cable comprising a light-conducting core (WL) and a covering layer (C), and a light source device arranged at the cable. The light source device propagates light from a light source of the light source device into the cable. The cable comprises a deflecting layer (CL) with a polarization-selective function, where the deflecting layer is arranged above the covering layer for uncoupling and deflecting of the evanescent wave field of the light propagating in the cable. Thickness of the covering layer decreases in light propagation direction.
