PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent foreign matter from being bitten in a sliding clearance in the periphery of a power piston, in a Stirling engine. SOLUTION: This Stirling engine includes: a displacer piston; the power piston 7 disposed below the displacer piston; a regenerator interposed in a working medium passage connecting an expansion chamber defined above the displacer piston to a compression chamber defined between the displacer piston and the power piston; a heating means heating the working medium led to flow into the expansion chamber; and a cooling means cooling the working medium led to flow into the compression chamber.
