With this method it is possible to etch the desired surface of a display panel substrate without unevenness. A method for fabricating a display panel includes the steps of: forming circuit wiring in individual areas which will constitute a plurality of display panels on a substrate member; forming protective films (9a, 9b) for covering at least part of said substrate member and said circuit wiring so as to cross a cutting line (c) for the substrate member when each display panel is separated; separating each display panel by cutting said substrate member along the cutting line (c) after said protective films (9a, 9b) are formed; and etching the cross-sectional surface of the separated display panel.
