The device has a steering spindle surrounded by bellows (2) and extended from a passage located near a sliding ring. A circular aluminum section (5) exhibits a flange-shaped support section at an outer circumference, where the bellows encompass the support section with an engine compartment-lateral end section. The aluminum section is connected to a collar-shaped silicone shielding section that is projected from the support section and extended towards a front wall. A silicone-bearing seat collar is integrally connected to the aluminum section and surrounded by a ring on the spindle. An independent claim is also included for a method for engine compartment-lateral mounting of a shielding device.
