PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical shaft pump equipped with a wear detection mechanism of a submerged bearing executing reliable wear detection. SOLUTION: This vertical pump includes: an impeller 10: a rotary shaft 6 connected to the impeller 10; a pump casing 2 holding the impeller 10 and the rotary shaft 6; the submerged bearings 12, 15 including sliding contact surfaces rotatably supporting the rotary shaft 6; a continuity detector 35 disposed at an outside of the pump casing 2; a pair of conductors 37, 37 disposed adjacently to the submerged bearings 12, 15, and a pair of cables 40, 40 connecting the pair of conductors 37, 37 and the continuity detector 35. Each end part of the pair of conductors 37, 37 is separated from the sliding contact surfaces of the submerged bearings 12, 15 in a radial direction of the rotary shaft 6 by a prescribed distance, and the pair of cables 40, 40 include at least three lead wires 41A, 41B, 41C respectively.
