SOLUTION: In a method for controlling recirculation of exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine including a recirculation valve in a conduit providing communication between an exhaust system and an intake system, and adjusting exhaust gas quantity recirculated to the intake system by controlling the recirculation valve according to a combustion state, an operation state of the internal combustion engine is determined as a transient state if air fuel ratio correction quantity for correcting fuel injection quantity according to degree of change of intake air exceeds a prescribed value, and renewal of learning value of exhaust gas quantity is prohibited (S5) if the operation state is determined as the transient state (S1, Yes).
