PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that prolongs the durability life of a cleaning blade without shortening the durability life of an image carrier. SOLUTION: A brush roller 6c is disposed upstream of the cleaning blade 6a and it is rotated in a counter-direction to a photoreceptor drum 1Y. The brush roller 6c with toner attached thereto slides over the photoreceptor drum 1Y, thereby removing a discharge product that may lead to an image flow. While image formation is carried out on 50,000 sheets from the beginning, during which the cleaning performance of the cleaning blade 6a is high, a control section 21 assigns the peripheral speed ratio of the brush roller 6c to the photoreceptor drum 1Y to 100%. After that, the control section increases the peripheral speed ratio according to the cumulated number of sheets subjected to image formation, so as to compensate for the deterioration in the rubber of the cleaning blade 6a. After image formation is carried out on more than 150,000 sheets, the control section assigns the peripheral speed ratio to 150%. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
