PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing hydrophobic inorganic fine particles which can impart excellent fluidity, chargeability and durability to a toner. SOLUTION: The method includes: preparing small-particle-size inorganic fine particles having an average primary particle size of 5-25 nm in a number-based particle size distribution and having a maximum peak particle size of≤20 nm in the particle size distribution; further preparing large-particle-size inorganic fine particles having an average primary particle size in the particle size distribution which is from 1.5 to 100 times the average primary particle size of the small-size particles; and subjecting both small and large particle size inorganic fine particles to hydrophobic treatment while agitating in the same treating tank.
