<p>An image display apparatus that displays an image on the basis of image signals of sub-pixels of first, second, and third color components forming a pixel includes a first light modulating unit that modulates light of the first color component on the basis of the image signal of the sub-pixel of the first color component, a second light modulating unit that modulates light of the second color component on the basis of the image signal of the sub-pixel of the second color component, and a third light modulating unit that modulates light of the third color component on the basis of the image signal of the sub-pixel of the third color component. The first to third light modulating units are provided such that display sub-pixels corresponding to the sub-pixels that use the lights modulated by the first to third light modulating units shift in a first direction that is a horizontal direction or a vertical direction of the image.
