A spot welded connection for at least two overlapping metal sheets (3,4) is formed by applying an adhesive between the sheets over the overlapping region, and then spot welding by electrical resistance pressure welding using spot welding electrodes. The spot welding is carried out before the adhesive layer hardens. A step (10) is formed to prevent weld material splashing to the edge. The adhesive layer is located between the step and the edge.
