<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To locally absorb mechanical stress acting to the structure of a sheet and its peripheral environment by volume expansion according to the formation of alloy by using a perforated sheet made of a host metal in an electrochemical power generation device. <P>SOLUTION: The electrochemical power generation device includes a thin membrane containing a positive electrode and a positive current collector, a host metal sheet intended to later on constitute a negative electrode, an electrolyte having alkali ion conductivity, and a source of alkali ions. The host metal sheet has voids. The quantity and arrangement of the voids are selected so as to be capable of locally absorbing any lateral expansion of the host metal sheet. Thereby, all cumulative change in the plane of the sheet is substantially prevented when the initial formation of alloy is conducted in the sheet between the host metal and an alkali metal which is brought about by the alkali ions.
