PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compatibly provide high control accuracy at a small operation angle side and high response speed at a large operation angle side in a variable valve gear continuously variably controlling a lift/operation angle. SOLUTION: In this variable valve gear, the lift/operation angle is primarily determined by the rotary angle position of a control shaft 32, and the control shaft 32 is moved by an actuator including an electric motor and a ball screw mechanism. A ball nut 54 and the control shaft 32 are connected through a first, a second and a third link 55, 56, 57, and a motion locus of a connecting pin 58 of the second and the third link 56, 57 is regulated by a cam groove 59. The cam groove 59 has a roughly L-shape, and sets the reduction ratio high in a first section 59A at the small operation angle side and low in a second section 59B at the large operation angle side.
