The method involves selecting a subset of original samples defining a peak from a mass scan signal comprising original samples defining the peak, where the original samples includes a temporal resolution. Synthesized samples are summed with temporally-aligned accumulated samples to produce mass spectrum, where the accumulated samples are obtained from mass scan signals generated during previously-performed mass scan operations. Subset of the original samples is interpolated to generate the synthesized samples. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a mass spectrometer comprising a sample selector (2) a computer-readable medium comprising a set of instructions for generating a mass spectrum.
