<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recorder capable of immediately discriminating whether recording media are video recordable or not, without waiting for a completion of mounting process by starting a video recording of a stream during the mounting process of the recording media. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The video recorder 10 mounted with a media M includes: a video recording controller 2 for video recording the stream inputted from a tuner 1 with respect to the media M; a media information acquisition means 9 for acquiring the media information from the media M and/or video recorder 10 when a power supply is turned off in a state that the mounting process of the media M is being normally finished; a media storage section 8 for storing the acquired media information; and a video recordable/unrecordable discrimination means 7 for discriminating whether the media M are video recordable or not, based on the media information stored in the media information storage section 8 when the video recording instruction is input to the media M before a power supply of next time is turned on and the mounting process is normally completed. The video recording controller 2 controls the video recording to the media M based on a discriminated result performed by the video recordable/unrecordable discrimination means 7.
