1,023,439. Etching. CHEMCUT CORPORATION. Jan. 1, 1965 [Feb. 19, 1964], No. 34/65. Heading B6J. An etching machine comprises a tank 26 for etching emulsion, a spray nozzle frame 22 having a plurality of upwardly directed nozzles, a holder for the work, e.g. a printing plate, comprising adjustable bars 94, 96, and baffles i04, 106 slidable in opposite directions to expose the work or to shield it and the opening existing when the lid 14 is raised. The frame 22 is moved by means of a motor to produce motion around a sun gear 70 and about its own axis at a different rate, resulting in the nozzles tracing cycloidal paths 244, Fig. 6. Pump mechanism forces the etchant through the nozzles. In operation, with the pump and cycloidal drive mechanism in operation, and the temperature of the etchant controlled by a heater 118 and cooling liquid flowing through immersed pipes, a starting switch is closed to actuate a timer whereby a motor opens the baffles for a predetermined period and then closes them, whereafter the lid is opened and the work removed and replaced. In another form, work is fed through the machine on a conveyer between upper and lower nozzle frames. |
