<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique recognizing a parking space by detecting objects existing on both sides of the parking space and assisting a parking operation of a user. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The parking assist range finding system 1 is provided for assisting the parking operation of a user by detecting corner parts of the objects existing at both the sides of the parking space. A parking assist device 10 includes: a vehicle detection part 111 for detecting the corner parts of the objects existing on both the sides of the parking space based on information from a radar device 20; a width calculation part 112 for detecting whether the user's vehicle can be parked in the parking space from the distances between the front and rear ends of the objects; and a reporting part 113 for guiding the parking operation of the user.
