<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid failure caused by half-shorting by stopping operation of a power unit itself when the half-shorting occurs on a secondary winding side of a transformer provided to obtain a wanted external output voltage in a single output power source. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A switching type electric power unit 100 includes a ripple voltage detecting circuit 14 for detecting half-shorting occurring at an output circuit, and a switch SW1 connected in series to a switching element Q1. The switch SW1 becomes non-conductive when the ripple voltage detecting circuit 14 detects a half-shorting occurring at the output circuit, thereby stopping supply of currents to the switching element Q1.
