PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for a flexible sleep mode in a wireless communication system are provided to operate sleep mode adaptively to a traffic pattern and an activity level of a terminal, thereby effectively reducing power consumption without increasing signaling overhead. CONSTITUTION: A base station decides whether downlink traffic transmitted to a terminal exists(2401). The base station decides whether a lot of data exist(2405). If a lot of data do not exist, the base station determines whether a next DRX(Discontinuous Reception) period is set as a minimum DRX period(2409). The base station transmits an MOB_TRF_IND message including an indicator set as the fourth value(2413). |
