PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grain boundary surface crack detection method for detecting properly a grain boundary surface crack developing in each direction. SOLUTION: In this grain boundary surface crack detection method, an ultrasonic wave is oscillated from an ultrasonic probe 6 to an inspection object W through an ultrasonic propagation medium 3, and a reflected wave reflected by the inspection object W is received by a receiver 6b, and a nonlinear ultrasonic characteristic operated based on a harmonic waveform included in the reflected wave is subjected to image processing and then displayed. In the method, the reflected wave is input by changing an incident angle at which the ultrasonic probe 6 allows the ultrasonic wave to enter the surface of the inspection object W (S5-S9), and each nonlinear ultrasonic characteristic operated based on the harmonic waveform included in the reflected wave input at each incident angle is subjected to image processing and then displayed relative to each incident angle (S10, S11).
