A paper sheet folding mechanism and a paper sheet folding device which ar e able to fold a paper sheet without damaging the paper sheet and with good accuracy along a folding line. The paper sheet folding mechanism has a first folding roller (51), a second folding roller (52), a first conveying roller (61), a second conveying roller (62), a thrusting member (71), and a contro l section. The first and second folding rollers (51, 52) are mounted so as t o nip a paper sheet with a folding line positioned at the leading edge of th e paper sheet and pass the paper sheet in a first direction. The first foldi ng roller (51) and the first conveying roller (61) are mounted so as to nip a paper sheet and convey the paper sheet in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The second folding roller (52) and the second conve ying roller (62) are mounted so as to nip a paper sheet and convey the paper sheet in a desired one of the second direction and the direction opposite t he second direction. The thrusting member (71) pushes out in the first direc tion a folding line of a paper sheet, conveyed by the first and second conve ying rollers (61, 62), to send the paper sheet into the nip between the firs t and second folding rollers (51, 52).
