<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake mechanism having simple construction for giving required load torque to a drive transmission device with smaller force, and to provide the drive transmission device equipped therewith, and to provide an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The brake mechanism 100 includes a rotating shaft 3, at least a pair of first and second brake members 1a, 1b for operating on the rotating shaft 3, and elastic members 2a, 2b for operating on the brake members 1a, 1b. The first and second brake members 1a, 1b have engaging points 4 where they engage with each other at another position than the center of the rotating shaft 3. The elastic force of the elastic members 2a, 2b operates on the first an second brake members 1a, 1b, as rotating moment around the engaging points 4.
