METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING PHOTONIC CRYSTAL FIBER PREFORM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form through-holes around the central axis in the longitudinal direction so that the through-holes are arranged parallelly along the central axis and in a prescribed lattice shape even if a photonic crystal fiber preform is a long column.

SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a photonic crystal fiber preform comprises using a plurality of disk-like quartz plates 30 each having a thickness of t1 at which bending does not occur on the way of boring by a borer, then boring through-holes 32 around the central axis 31 of each quartz plate 30 so that the through-holes are arranged in a prescribed lattice shape, stacking the quartz plates 30-1 to 30-10 in a column shape so that each through-hole 32 is situated in the same position, and heating the stacked quartz plates at a temperature lower than a temperature at which the quartz plates are completely melted so that the quartz plates are welded into a unified body in such a state that each through-hole is in an insertable state at upper and lower planes.
