PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the influence of smear in an image within a possible range while maintaining a frame rate suitable for a moving picture. SOLUTION: A smear detection circuit 247 detects a smearing region where smearing occurs from image data and detects a smear level showing a size of smear component included in the smearing region. A camera control unit 21 acquires information on the smear level from the smear detection circuit 247. The camera control unit 21 controls an image sensor drive device 14 so that high-speed sweeping drive is performed so as to sweep unnecessary charges in CCD (3, 4) before charges accumulated by a plurality of photo-electric conversion means respectively are transferred when the smear level is a threshold S1 or smaller and high-speed sweeping driving is not performed when the smear level is larger than the threshold S1.
