An automatic control system for an air conditioning apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to automatically turn off power of a compressor when refrigerant is leaked from a pipe or refrigerant pressure in the pipe is reduced, thereby preventing damages of the compressor. An automatic control system for an air conditioning apparatus includes a pressure sensor(20) and an alarm unit(30). The pressure sensor includes the first sub pipe(21), the second sub pipe(22), the third sub pipe(23), a damper(24), and a pressure sensor. The first sub pipe is connected to a main pipe between an evaporator and a compressor. The second sub pipe is connected to the main pipe between a condenser and the compressor. The third sub pipe connects an end part of the first sub pipe and an end part of the second sub pipe. The damper selectively opens one of the first sub pipe and the second sub pipe. The damper blocks one of them. The pressure sensor senses pressure of refrigerant. The alert unit informs a user of an unusual condition of the air conditioning apparatus.
