PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDP having excellent durability against alteration of a protective film due to the atmosphere and impurity gas, and thereby capable of reducing power consumption well by exerting an excellent secondary electron emission characteristic over a long time. SOLUTION: In a front panel, the protective film 8 is formed with a composition of an oxide containing Sr and Zr to include a part of an amorphous structure, and the quantity of Sr in the oxide is set larger than that of Zr in the oxide. A discharge start voltage Vf is lowered by an excellent secondary electron emission characteristic that the protective film 8 has to reduce power consumption of this PDP 1. The protective film is prevented from being altered to a carbonate by contacting the atmosphere or exhaust gas during transport in a manufacturing process, and baking in a sealing process of the PDP 1, thereby improving the life characteristic of the PDP 1.
