<p>A coated cutting tool and a method of manufacturing the coated cutting tool are provided to increase the lifetime of a tool even if the tool has a sharp geometrical shape and ground blade without having spalling, frittering and flaking. A coated cutting tool has coating including an intermetallic layer located between at least two nonmetal functional layers or nonmetal functional layer systems. The coated cutting tool includes hardmetal cemented carbide, cermet, ceramics, cube boron nitride or high speed steel base. The intermetallic layer includes at least 60 at% of a metal element selected from Ti, Mo, Al, Cr, V, Y, Nb, W, Ta and Zr. The at least two nonmetal functional layer or nonmetal functional layer systems include at least one of nitride, oxide, boride, carbide and combinations thereof. The thickness of the at least two nonmetal functional layer or nonmetal functional layer systems corresponds to three to two-hundred times the thickness of the intermetallic layer.</p> |
