Class 38(5) An arc chute for a circuit-breaker comprises transverse insulating plates 11, the arc being split up into sections 20 which are rotated through 90 degrees into positions parallel to a plane perpendicular to a line joining the contacts 1, 2, by the diverging branches 13, 14 of conducting components 12, the branches of one component being on opposite sides of the associated plate 11. The contact space is embraced by the poles of a magnetic blow-out coil 6, and the movable contact 2 may be permanently or temporarily connected to an arcing contact 5.
