Disclosed is a novel process for producing propylene by using ethylene and at least one member selected from methanol and dimethyl ether as starting materials, which can reduce the amount of unreacted ethylene to be recycled and has low equipment cost and running cost. Specifically disclosed is a process for producing propylene by using ethylene and at least one member selected from methanol and dimethyl ether as starting materials, which comprises reacting ethylene and at least one member selected from methanol and dimethyl ether under specific conditions to produce a fluid containing an olefin having 4 or more carbon atoms, and then reacting at least a part of the olefin having 4 or more carbon atoms contained in the fluid with at least one member selected from methanol and dimethyl ether under specific conditions, thereby producing propylene.
