In an example embodiment, a first streaming media device, such as a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone initiates a communication session with a second streaming media device. An offer is sent to the second streaming media device comprising a plurality of potential configurations. The second device selects one of the plurality of configurations and communicates the selection to the first device during connectivity checks, for example during an Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE) connectivity checks.
