PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for adjusting an optical disk focus position, and an optical disk unit, properly adjusting a focus even when a DMA portion cannot be read because of a breakage or a defect. SOLUTION: In the method for adjusting the optical disk focus position to record or reproduce information while adjusting the focus position of an optical reproduction means on the recording plane of an optical information recording medium having a defective information management zone of the optical information recording medium, a plurality of information sets are stored in advance in regard to a correctly set focus position obtained from the defective information management zone of the optical disk. Thereafter, when the information in the defective information management zone cannot be reproduced from the optical disk mounted on the unit, by using the relationship between the plurality of information pieces in regard to the correctly set focus position stored in advance, the focus position of the optical disk mounted on the unit is adjusted from at least one signal in regard to the focus position obtained from the optical disk.
