The field device (1) realizes a logical slave (3) with a standard address i.e. delivery address, operation and another two logical slaves with an address operation, where the address is different from the standard address. A detection device detects an action that is conducted on the field device and independent of the bus. A switching logic shifts the field device from one mode to another mode during a change from a standard address to another address value. The latter two logical slaves exhibit profiles that are different from each other. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for addressing multiple bus subscribers (2) a system for addressing multiple bus subscribers.
