A lithium secondary battery is provided to ensure high effective charging/discharging characteristic, to improve cycle life, low-temperature discharge characteristic and to enhance the discharge characteristic at a high temperature by suppressing the reaction of an anode and organic solvent. A lithium secondary battery comprises an anode, cathode, a separator interposed between cathode and anode, a binder for anode and nonaqueous liquid electrolyte. The anode has at least, the specific surface area of 1.5 m^2/g. The nonaqueous liquid electrolyte comprises a lithium salt; nonlinear carbonate mixed organic solvent consisting of (a) cyclic carbonate including ethylene carbonate or a mixture of ethylene carbonate and polypropylene carbonate and (b) propionate-based ester indicated as the chemical formula 1 in a volume ratio of 10:90-70:30; and a reactive inhibitor of the anode of the propionate-based ester. |
