PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a personal effects management gate for detecting the subject of detection including soft magnetic material from being saturated with detection signals regardless of the amount of magnetic material to be detected and whether or not there is magnetic material that is not the subject of detection. SOLUTION: The personal effects management gate includes a first detection gate 10 for detecting soft magnetic material to be detected, a second detection gate 20 and a third detection gate 30 for detecting signal levels when detecting signals caused by the soft magnetic material, a signal processing means 45 for determining whether or not there is the subject of detection according to the outputs of the detection gates, and human sensors 41, 42 for detecting passersby. Based on a second detection signal for detecting a signal level when a signal caused by soft magnetic material is detected, the signal processing means 45 eliminates signals that are not the subject of detection, while amplifying the first detection signal to the extent that it is not saturated, thereby detecting a signal of magnetic material to be detected.
