PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid STL (succinoyl trehalose lipid) composition which is white, readily soluble in an aqueous solvent and capable of affording a colorless transparent aqueous solution.

SOLUTION: The solid STL composition can be obtained by culturing a microorganism in a culture medium containing a carbon source and purifying the culture medium according to an original method for purification. The composition is white, readily soluble in the aqueous solvent and capable of affording the colorless transparent aqueous solution and forming a stable emulsion with an aqueous ingredient and an oily ingredient.
