PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner in which a synchronization detection optical system is made compact without complicating the adjustment process of the shift of an imaging position of a luminous flux which is made incident on the light receiving face of a synchronization detection sensor 72. SOLUTION: In the optical scanner, a synchronization detection optical element 7 is a prism which has two integrated flat reflection faces which are arranged at a right angle to each other in a subscanning cross section and has a power in the subscanning direction, and the deflection face of an optical deflector 5 and the light receiving face of the synchronization detection sensor 72 are composed to be an optically conjugate relation by the prism 7 in the subscanning cross section.
