<p>A well drilling installation has an electric or hydraulic motor at the bottom end of the boring column, driving the cutting head, and a main structure relatively low in height, with the ancillary equipment on a platform as close as possible to the well head. The equipment includes means of handling and storing the boring column, means of circulating the lubricating fluid, and means capable of supporting, unaided, the total weight of the boring column. The handling gear includes a series of assemblies of endless chains with clamping shoes, displaceable radially, along with a locking wedge assembly and the stowing mechanism for the boring column, to and from the vertical axis of the bore. The boring column comprises a flexible conduit which can be stored in a spiral coil, in a vessel rotatable coaxially with the bore, which encloses the equipment, including its own drive and a rotary hydraulic joint for the column lubrication. Superstructure is only half the height of that normally used. It is easily transportable and can be screened easily against the weather. Noise levels are reduced.</p> |
