Plates (10) for use in the dairy, brewing and like industries are tested for pinholes by coating one side with a bubble-forming solution, e.g. soapy water, and clamping them to form one face of a chamber which is then subjected to a reduced pressure. The plate is viewed through the opposite transparent face of the chamber (5) and any defects show up by the formation of bubbles which are easily visible. This provides a quick, simple method of testing which can be carried out reliably with very little risk of operator error. |
