PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for applying a flux, which method is suitable for high-mix low volume production for a wide variety of products. SOLUTION: When an operator has put a substrate P on a conveyor 11 from a workpiece carrying-in/out port 10a, and a substrate sensor 15 has detected the tip end of the substrate P, a control unit 28 starts to count a pulse signal transmitted synchronizing with the speed of the conveyor, and starts to jet the flux f at prescribed timing in order to apply the flux f on the back surface of the substrate P. In this case, the flux is jetted while reciprocatingly moving the nozzle 14, and the substrate P is moved forward in the direction crossing to the moving direction of the nozzle 14. After the jet of the flux has been finished after counting the prescribed pulses, the control unit 28 turns a pulse motor 17 in the reversed direction, and the substrate P is moved backward in the reversed direction and is returned to the workpiece carrying-in/out port 10a.
