PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for accurately discriminating a color mark without raising resolution of a camera itself, and an apparatus for it. SOLUTION: When the color and the number of pieces of the color mark M is discriminated by photographing the color mark M transferred on the side part of an inspected tire T which is conveyed by a conveyor 11, after the conveyor 11 is stopped temporarily and the tire T to be discriminated is moved and placed on a turntable 12, and while the tire T placed on the turntable 12 is rotated, the side part of the tire illuminated by a line illuminating device 17 is photographed by a line camera 14 to obtain an image of the tire, and based on the obtained image of the tire, the color and the number of the pieces of the color mark M are discriminated.
