PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary self-propelled endoscope which has improved insertion/extraction stability into/from a body cavity and does not hinder observation performance. SOLUTION: The rotary self-propelled endoscope 2 is provided with: an insertion tube 6 to be inserted into the body cavity; a rotating cylinder 51 which is provided freely rotatably around a long axis of the insertion tube and has a spiral shape on the surface; a turning means 15 for turning the rotating cylinder; and a soft cover part 53 for covering the rotating cylinder in a non-turned state even when the rotating cylinder turns.
