PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately control an ignition timing without causing knock when a fuel amount is increasingly corrected corresponding to a high engine speed and a high load of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: An ECU executes a computer program including a step of, if a damping execution determining flag is OFF (NO at S100) and an increase in the fuel amount is in delay (YES at S102), calculating a retard angle D (S104) to control the ignition timing (S106), a step of, if the increase in the fuel amount is not in delay (NO at S102) and a standby time lapsed (YES at S108), performing a damping process to the retard angle D (S110) to control the ignition timing (S112), and a step of, if the retard angle D is zero (YES at S114), turning the damping execution determining flag ON (S116).
