PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection device which projects a wide-screen image having a compact constitution. SOLUTION: The projection device is equipped with a first polarizing beam splitter 12 for polarizing and splitting incident light; a first modulation element 13 for modulating first component light split by the first polarizing beam splitter 12; a second polarizing beam splitter 16 for polarizing and splitting second component light split by the first polarizing beam splitter 12; a second modulation element 14 for modulating the first component light split by the second polarizing beam splitter 16; and a projection optical system 17 for projecting the light modulated by the first modulation element 13 and the light modulated by the second modulation element 14.
